Types of computer based on principales of operetion

There are three types of computers according to the  principal of the operation.
Those three types of computers are

  • Analog computers
  • Digital Computer
  • Hybrid Computer

  1. Analog computer

Analog computer is a computing device that works on  Continuous rang of value.the result given by the analog computer will only be approximate since they deal with quantities that very continuously. It generally deals with physical variable such as voltage, pressure, temperature, speed, etc.

     2.Digital Computer

On the other hand a digital computer operates on digital data such as number. It uses binary number system  in which there are only two digits 0 and 1.1 is called a bit.

The digital computer is designed using digital circuits in which there are two levels  for an input and output signal. These two levels are know as  logic 0 and logic 1 .Digital computers can give more accurate and faster results.

Digital computer is well suited for solving complex problems in engineering and technology .Hence computer have an increasing use in the field of design, research, and data processing.

Based on the purpose.Digital computers can be further classified as,

  • General purpose Computers
  • Special Purpose of Computers
special purpose of computer is one that is built for a special application.General purpose of computers are used for any type of application. Most of the computers that we see today, are general purpose computer.

    3.Hybrid Computer

A hybrid computer combines the desirable features of analog and digital computer. It is mostly for       automatic operations of complicated physical processes and machines.Now-a-day analog-to-digital  converters are used for transforming the data into suitable form for either type of  computation.

Types of computers based on configuration

There are different four types of  computers when we classify them based on their performance and capacity.
The four types are
  • Super computers
  • Mainframe computers
  • Mini computers
  • Micro computers
